Find An Institution

Search for a college or university accredited by The Commission and see its current accreditation status.

This directory lists institutions accredited by The Commission. Many accredited institutions are accredited by other recognized accreditors and will not appear here.

The Commission – Other Institutions

What this Directory Shows

A listing here means the institution has been reviewed against The Commission’s standards and meets them. It confirms that the institution is accredited — and by whom, since when, and at what degree levels.

Accreditation is a threshold, not a ranking. Accredited institutions are not scored or ordered against one another, and a listing is not a statement that one institution is stronger than another. It also is not a guarantee about any individual program, campus, or student’s experience.

What Each Status Means

STATUS WHAT IT MEANS
Accredited The institution has been reviewed against The Commission's standards and meets them. Accreditation is maintained through ongoing review.
Candidate The institution is working toward accreditation and is under review, but is not yet accredited. Candidacy is a preparatory status, not a form of accreditation.
Accredited, with a public sanction The institution is no longer accredited by The Commission. The date of removal is shown.
Closed The institution has ceased operations. Information about obtaining student records is provided where available.

If an Institution has Closed

When an institution closes, The Commission does not hold its student records. Records are typically transferred to a state agency or another institution, and where we have that information, it appears with the institution’s listing.

If you need a transcript from a closed institution and cannot locate it, your state’s higher education agency is usually the right place to start.
